Bill McGovern

Grades 4-5

Although Bill McGovern was born in California, he spent his formative years in Idaho Falls. His family moved to Idaho Falls when he was 2 years old. After graduating from Kindergarten, his family moved to Upstate New York where his father ran a theme park called Frontier Town. Half way through third grade his family moved back to Idaho Falls. Maybe it was the fun moves that Mr. McGovern experienced when he was younger, but he has always been a fan of traveling. When he isn't planning his next trip, Mr. McGovern loves to ski in the winter and swim, hike and camp in the warmer seasons. He is also a fan of reading a great book or watching a new movie. Buffalo wings are his favorite food, but he also loves Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Indian, Thai...let's be honest, Mr. McGovern just loves food!

After graduating High School, Mr. McGovern went on to college at the University of Idaho. He obtained a bachelor of arts degree in English and worked as a developmental specialist for a number of years. He wasn't quite done with school yet and went back to school where he obtained a bachelor of arts in History as well. He graduated the second time while studying abroad in Japan. During his time there, he did some tutoring and really got a taste for teaching. This motivated him to move to China and Taiwan for 7 years to teach English.

Teaching has been a passion of his ever since. There is nothing else that he would want to do. His favorite teaching moments happen when he sees a student become confident in something they were shy about before. Seeing kids become excited about something they were scared of before, reminds him why he began teaching in the first place and inspires him to do even better in the future.
