Diana Yates loves the teaching philosophy and structure at Alturas. “It is so great to work in an environment where children are free to work together, learn from mistakes, support each other, and explore together.”
Mrs. Yates has been teaching, in one capacity or another for almost 25 years. She began her career as a high school English, history, and humanities teacher at schools in Utah and Maryland. She was named First Year Teacher of the Year in the Granite School district in Salt Lake City. She is also a certified Montessori teacher, and worked in the Montessori field for 12 years. As part of her Montessori experience, she also taught music and outdoor education.
Mrs. Yates attended the University of Utah, where she majored in English Education with a minor in history. Her university experience included a semester at Cambridge University in England. After graduating from college, she served an LDS mission to Washington DC, where she met her husband, Steve. They have been married over 27 years, and have two awesome children, Christina and John. The Yates family lived in Maryland for 20 years, where Steve worked in several government posts. They fell in love with Idaho Falls while visiting family who live here and were so excited when they were able to move their family to this area in 2012.
Mrs. Yates comes from three generations of teachers; she loves the challenges and creativity that this job demands, and she loves seeing children learn and grow. When not at school, Mrs. Yates enjoys reading, gardening, spending time outdoors and searching thrift stores for old furniture to refinish.
