Meet Robyn Larsen

RobynL.JPG

Robyn Larsen was born and grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Hillcrest High School. She has three sisters and one brother. Her parents owned Hart Photography until her dad retired last year.  After high school she went to Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY where she majored in photojournalism. While in school she did two, 6-month internships: one in Kalamazoo, MI and one in Portland, OR.

After graduating from college she joined the Peace Corps and served in a little, tiny island country called Kiribati-- formerly the British colony known as the Gilbert Islands. It’s in the middle of the Pacific where the equator and international dateline intersect. After Peace Corps she traveled around Australia and New Zealand for a bit with her younger sister.

When she got back to the US, she moved to Abilene, TX where she was the photo editor at the newspaper. She ended up deciding to leave journalism and eventually headed back overseas to Seoul, South Korea to give teaching a try. She lived there for 3.5 years teaching English to mostly 3 and 4 year olds, then traveled around India and SE Asia for a few months. She spent two months in Thailand as a volunteer taking care of baby tigers.

Ms. Larsen moved to San Jose, CA, where she went back to school and got my multi-subject K-8 teaching credential at San Jose State University. She moved overseas again to Kuwait where she taught 2nd grade at the American International School (AIS) of Kuwait. AIS is an IB World School so she has been teaching in the PYP for the past three years. The opportunity to teach in her hometown at Alturas came up and she couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this school! I love teaching students how to find answers to questions and explore their interests.

She love traveling, learning about other cultures, hiking, animals (she has two cats that are her babies), and chocolate. :)
