Melissa Dickey was raised in Star Valley, Wyoming where she grew up with 12 brother and sisters, lots of animals, and a love for learning and exploring. She graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with minors in music and Spanish. She did not always want to be a teacher, but instead studied music for three years working toward a degree in Music Therapy. However, through different practicum experiences, she soon discovered a deep love for elementary-aged students and a passion for education.
She strongly believes that every student deserves an education tailored to meet his or her needs and interests, and that her high expectations will encourage and help children to accomplish great things. She loves learning alongside her students, and feels passionate about the mission and charter of Alturas International Academy.
Mrs. Dickey enjoys living life to the fullest with her incredible partner, Cortland, and their two-year-old twins, Ezmae and Philip. As a family they love to read together, explore new destinations, build forts, camp in the backyard, and play board games (Candyland is the current favorite). Nothing makes her happier than seeing the people around her working hard, playing hard, and keeping things real. Her favorite thing to do is to make new friends, followed closely by her second favorite thing: delicious food.
